Thieves have ransacked a newly opened Derry hairdressers and beauticians premises on Fountain Street, stealing thousands of pounds worth of stock and wrecking what they couldn't steal, writes Michelle Dunlop.
Staff arrived the salon this morning, found the door had been forced open and the premises trashed. Beauty supplies up to the value of five thousand pounds have been stolen. The beautician, who wishes to remain anonymous, confirmed that items including a spray-tanning machine, valued at around one thousand pounds and a large quantity of expensive skincare supplies were also taken. As a result the beautician has now had to remove all supplies from the business and will be temporarily out of work.
It has been reported to the PSNI that sometime overnight the premises were broken into and the goods taken. It is not known if the burglary is linked to a armed robbery which took place at a shop in the nearby Carlisle Road area of the city centre earlier on Monday evening.
Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding the burglary to contact CID at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
