As part of their ‘Shadows on Glass’ Exhibition, the Alley Theatre are calling on budding young photographers to pick up their camera and enter their competition showcasing the rich history of the Strabane area.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a digital camera or a phone, the only rules are you have to be 8-16 years old in order to take part.

All you have to do is take a photograph of a local historic site in the general Strabane District and write on the back of the photograph where and when it was taken and by whom, along with their age.

These photographs will then form a new 2020 calendar and the first 12 photographs picked will each receive a family pass for The Tower Museum.

The ‘Shadows on Glass’ Exhibition displays over 50 images which reflect the rich diversity of what has been described as one of the most important documentary collections in Ireland.

Now, the theatre are offering young people the chance to be part of a new collection, and Betty Doherty, Assistant Education and Access Officer with the Tower Museum, said it is a great opportunity for them to show off their skills, while also promoting the rich history and beauty of Strabane.

“The ‘Shadows on Glass’ Exhibition is a celebration of photography in the Strabane area, and we as a Museum would like to showcase local photographs from Strabane and surrounding areas taken by local people through our competition,” she said.

The photos can be submitted for the attention of Betty Doherty at The Alley Theatre, Strabane or The Tower Museum, Derry. Alternatively, you can send your photograph with a short description via email to betty.doherty@derrystrabane.com.

The deadline for receipt of photographs is Monday, September 30th 2019.
