The City will be awash with blue notes over the next five days as the 13th City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival kicks off tomorrow (01/05).
This year's festival will focus on the Spiegeltent in Guildhall Square, which will host an impressive array of talent including internationally renowned Jazz musician Kyle Eastwood, 90’s rock and pop legend Curtis Stigers, and rising swing star Anthony Strong. This year’s Speakeasy theme will add some prohibition style glamour as well as plenty of moonshine and music magic to keep you on your feet all weekend - so have your password ready for the Playhouse Speakeasy Bar.
The Festival kicks off with a bang on Thursday evening at the Mayor’s Charity Event in the Tower Hotel, which this year is in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and features some high energy performances from Oo-BopSh’Bam, Jiveoholics and the Derry Soulseekers, and with folk sensation Kate Rusby, the Puppini Sisters, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and the ultimate Drifters tribute show ‘Under the Boardwalk’ all on the bill.
The City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival is run by Derry City Council, and sponsored by Diageo, Department of Culture and Leisure and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.
