AS THE city continues to enjoy the Clipper Homecoming Festival, the Continental Market will be getting in full swing allowing shoppers to share in the global spirit of festival from tomorrow, Thursday July 5, until Sunday along the Queen’s Quay.
Visitors to the market can sample Spanish paella, fine French pastries, robust German sausage, and cheeses from around the world, to name but a few of the culinary delights on display.
The award winning Continental Market, sponsored by Stena Line, has been a regular visitor to Derry and attracts traders from as far afield as Morrocco, India, Russia and China, all keen to showcase their traditional goods here.
And the market’s ongoing commitment to local business means indigenous traders can also be seen offering the finest local produce alongside the amazing mix of international stalls.
Shoppers can browse the familiar to the exotic from 9am to 6pm throughout the four days, leaving plenty of time to explore the colourful wares on display.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mayor, Cllr Kevin Campbell, said the market would add a bit of spice to the festivities. “As always it’s wonderful to welcome the Continental Market which is exceptionally popular here. It will generate a real buzz in the Guildhall Square, adding to the sense of global community being promoted by the Clipper Homecoming Festival.
“We anticipate many visitors to the city over the course of the festival, and this will provide them with the additional opportunity to sample some wonderful local produce, as well as perhaps some familiar flavours from home.”
The market presents just one of many opportunities to enjoy fine food throughout the ten day festival, which features a special Seafood Trail run in conjunction with a whole host of local restaurants, as well as the Flavours of the Foyle Seafood Festival, which runs this weekend, June 30-July 1.
