Derry City Council has taken steps to deal with a rats issue emanating from the excavation and development works in the Creggan Burn Park area of the City.
SDLP Councillor Shauna Cusack welcomed the news, saying: “This issue was brought to the attention of Mark H Durkans office by a number of residents living in the immediate vicinity of the works who witnessed vermin around their properties. While the Council hasn't provided an extermination programme for vermin since the 90's they are able to contract a pest control expert as the development in this case is a Council project , for which they are naturally responsible.
I am delighted to inform the residents of Rosemount and the Glen that the area should now be treated to deal with this issue and the pest control contractor will be in situ and monitoring the site for the duration of the works until completion.'”
