Having assessed the local climate, both commercially and meteorologically, two current HNC Business students from North West Regional College have established a business that’s making the most of the predictable weather and Derry~Londonderry’s year as City of Culture.

Aaron O'Neill and John White met on their part-time course at the College’s Strand Road Campus and recently established ‘Culture Covers’ manufacturing and selling branded umbrellas.

With their striking ‘Culture Cart’ they are making it as easy as possible for customers to buy their high quality fibre glass, windproof and virtually indestructible umbrellas as well as a range of other merchandise.

Aaron and John took time out from their busy study and business schedules to share their experience to date with the full time HND students.  Aaron explained “We got to know each other through the Higher National Certificate Business course in the College and we started to bounce ideas around.  We eventually came up with the concept for the umbrellas which have been popular at events in and around the city with our Culture Cart.”

The entrepreneurs also explained the procedures and licences they had been required to follow and inspired the HND students to turn their ideas into a business reality – even while studying.  North West Regional College is committed to providing all students with opportunities to develop enterprise skills and to explore business potential within their area of expertise. For Culture Covers they’re hoping that the future will be very bright – with a chance of showers!
