SDLP Councillor Shauna Cusack has expressed her alarm at a brutal and unprovoked attack which took place in the De Burgh Terrace area of the city on Sunday morning.

‘I am shocked and disgusted to hear of a particularly brutal and unprovoked attack on an innocent man in De Burgh Terrace on Sunday morning. These thugs, who stole the victims van, drove it recklessly through a built up residential area and then set it on fire, have no thought or feeling for others or the lasting negative impact that their actions have caused.’

“Two arrests have been made and I hope that those involved are brought to justice. Whatever warped mind gets pleasure from placing a man in hospital and destroying his means of livelihood is seriously concerning. My sympathy is with this man and his family as no doubt he will continue to relive this trauma for a long time to come.

“It is the duty of the community to help the police with their enquiries if they have any information which might help. This kind of vile behaviour has no place in our society and the perpetrators should be punished accordingly.”
