Welcoming a decision by the Henderson Group to install defibrillators at their stores in Derry, Cllr Angela Dobbins has said that she is delighted that finally something is being done to address the issue of increased cardiac fatalities.
She said: “I have put this motion twice through full council – within Derry City Council and the new Derry & Strabane District council urging that defibrillators be installed, not only in every council facility and premises, but also to have them installed at strategic points throughout the city.
“I am delighted that the Henderson Group, who franchise Vivo, Spar and Eurospar, have taken the initiative to have these vital pieces of equipment installed at their stores not only in Derry but throughout Northern Ireland.
“This campaign complements a strategy launched by DHSSPS in 2014. The Community Resuscitation Strategy aims to improve the survival rate for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests and with the increase in availability of defibrillators throughout the North I am certain that more lives will be saved in the future.”
“I hope that more Supermarket and Department Stores will follow this example and provide funding to install these vital AEDs at their premises and making out of hospital cardiac fatalities a statistic of the past."
