Derry man sentenced for domestic abuse

A man aged in his 30’s was sentenced at Londonderry Crown Court yesterday, Tuesday, 12 November, in connection with domestic abuse.

He was sentenced to a six month custodial sentence suspended for three years after he pled guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and criminal damage after fracturing a bone in his partner’s foot and on a separate occasion biting her face.  A restraining order was also issued for 3 years.

Detective Constable Mark Chambers said: “Domestic abuse can affect anyone.  Perpetrators should be aware that there are penalties and consequences for abusive actions within relationships.  Anyone who is currently suffering from domestic abuse can be assured that they can come forward in confidence and speak to detectives in Public Protection Branch who will treat you with sensitivity and respect.”
