There are counterfeit £50 Clydesdale Bank notes in circulation in Derry City & Strabane District.
City Centre Initiative report that there have been 6 of these exchanged within Derry City and Strabane, with reports that more have been located in Irvingstown and Omagh.
The Initiative said: "Please let your colleagues know and tell them to avoid loss, DO NOT ACCEPT £50 notes.
These bills have been UV marked to show up under UV light, this was probably done with a Property marker style pen and a stencil. There are many security markers on notes.
Look for the Hologram it moves and changes colour.
The UV should be crisp and clear with no missing parts
The bill should FEEL REAL.
It should turn black when the counterfeit pen is used (these do not turn black)
These bill have been treated and do not turn black, and show up under UV, However they do not feel real and the Hologram is not real."
