Energy provider Firmus has confirmed it will be installing new gas lines in various areas in Derry beginning this spring.
SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan has welcomed the confirmation, saying: “A number of residents had contacted my office with various requests for gas lines to be extended into a number of areas across the City. While early responses from Firmus indicated that some areas would not be serviced, I am delighted that they have given a number of projects in Derry the go-ahead.
“The first works will take place in April at Cypress Grove, Danesfort Crescent, Greenhaw Manor, Greenhaw Road, Greenhaw Terrace, Fortfield Avenue and Steelstown Road. In June Firmus plan to install gas lines for Ardnarea Crescent, Ardnashee, Culmore Road, Belmont Crescent, Belmont Drive, Belmont Park and Troy Park. Ballynasilloe Avenue and Garden City will commence in July, with works beginning on Baronscourt and Hampstead Park in August. Finally scheduled works are planned for Darleen Park, Gleneagles, Mount Pleasant and Talbot Park for October.
“The availability of a gas supply in these areas will allow residents greater choice in choosing whichever energy they deem the more efficient and economical for their household. I look forward to work commencing on the ground and have made representations to the provider that it is done with minimal disruption to residents or road users.”
