Invest Northern Ireland’s Chief Executive Alastair Hamilton has announced the completion of the first phase of the new business park at Melmount Road in Strabane.
Sixteen acres of new serviced land are now available to qualifying businesses. To date, six eligible companies have declared an interest in acquiring sites at the business park.
When the £6m park is completed, 22 acres of business space will be available to eligible companies.
Alastair Hamilton said: “Our new business park in Strabane will help address the shortage of available industrial land in the district and play an important role in supporting economic development in the area.
“This investment forms part of Invest NI’s land holding policy to develop land for industrial use in locations where the private sector is unwilling or unable to do so. We are proactively marketing this site to both foreign and indigenous investors as an investment location.”
Infrastructure development works on the £6 million investment by Invest NI have been underway since May 2012. The completed Business Park will deliver a total of 22 acres of serviced land for potential investors.
We will continue to work with Strabane District Council to progress this development as well as the companies who declare an interest in locating there,” Mr Hamilton added.
The subsequent phases will be developed and released in response to the demand from qualifying businesses.
Strabane District Council Chairman, Thomas Kerrigan, said: “The opening of the Strabane Business Park has been much anticipated and the six expressions of interest recorded so far is positive news. Melmount Road is a strategic site in the district and I very much welcome Invest NI’s commitment to develop this land for industrial use. I look forward to investors locating at our new business park and creating jobs in the area.”
