Footballing stars jet in for Derry golfing charity clash

DERRY'S Da Vinci's Hotel was wall to wall football stars at the weekend when Celtic star Paddy McCourt brought his teammate Anthony Stokes and Mark Wilson, as well as Everton's Mike Newell, Newcastle's Lee Toland and Burnley's Daniel Lafferty to town to play in a charity golfing match.

The golfing charity clash - Maiden City Academy Celebrity Golf 2012 - was held at Foyle Golf on Friday afternoon. Some of the other celebrities who took part were Eoghan Quigg X-Factor singer, Stevie Robinson NI U21 Manager, Marlon Beresford U21 Goal Keeping Coach, John O'Neill Ex NI international and Mark McChrystal, Tranmere Rovers Ex Derry City.

The BBC's Joel Taggart hit a hole in one on the 5th.

Paddy and his footballing pals spent the entire afternoon at the golf club before returning to the Culmore Road hotel.

Word of his arrival in town had spread, and by the time the footballers returned to their hotel a crowd of young supporters had gathered.

Former Derry City FC star Paddy happily signed autographs for fans and posed for dozens of pictures.
