Former Undertones frontman Feargal Sharkey has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Sharkey, 60, has worked extensively in music promotion in the UK and in 2008 became the head of UK music, the body which represents the interests of the British commercial music industry.

He used his platform to oppose the Metropolitan Police’s Form 696, which makes event promoters share data on their acts and audience.

In 2010 he received an honorary degree from the University of Ulster in recognition of his services to music.

He has also been passionately involved in environmental issues and the natural habitats and nature reserves throughout the UK.

Other musicians honoured this time round are Elvis Costello OBE and Andrew Roachford MBE.
