Derry’s new £12.7m sports centre at St Columb’s Park, the Foyle Arena, was officially launched today before it opens its doors to the public in mid-April.
Speaking after attending today’s official launch of the state-of-the-art facility, SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan called it a ‘superb’ facility which will bring so many benefits to the city and wider North West.
“The Foyle Arena is a superb facility which will be a great asset for our city.
“It is great to see the vision of a centre of sporting excellence delivered in such a quality setting.
“I have no doubts it will be well used by all age groups and encourage them to lead a healthier lifestyle.
“I was particularly impressed by Derry’s new ‘Walls’ – the huge 15m high Climbing Arena which runs the height of the building’s three floors.
“I am also delighted that the Foyle Arena is a multi-purpose space – building on the legacy of The Venue which was a huge asset to Derry during the City of Culture year.”
