SDLP Education Spokesperson Daniel McCrossan MLA has said that he is extremely disappointed that the timeline for the delivery of the Strule Shared Education Campus has been delayed for another year.
The West Tyrone MLA said that he accepted delays as a result of the Covid-19 crisis are inevitable but said that the project must be a priority for the Education Minister.
Daniel McCrossan MLA said: “It is incredibly disappointing that the Strule Shared Education Campus is going to be delayed for another year. When work began on the project, people in Omagh were promised that this campus would be opened this year. Instead we’ve had delay after delay and now the Education Minister has confirmed that the earliest opening date is now September 2025.
“At this rate we’ll be lucky if children born the year the project started will be able to set foot in the campus. It’s really hard to argue that this is a priority for the Education Minister when there has been so much delay.
“Young people in Tyrone need these facilities. We’re letting down too many people if we continue to accept excuses for failure on this project. I’ll be making representations to the Minister about these further delays and to emphasise how important it is that the Strule Campus is delivered.”
