A large fire occurred this morning (29 July) at Foyle Port on Port Road, Maydown.
The fire is understood to have originated in an industrial shed and sent large plumes of black smoke into the air that were visible over a mile away.
Residents of Strathfoyle were advised by police to shut doors and windows and remain indoors.
It is understood that NIFRS have brought the fire under control.
A spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident that has taken place in one of the sheds on the Foyle Port site and are carrying out all appropriate procedures. The emergency services are now at the Port and dealing with the incident.”
