Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced a new mail opening and scanning unit in Limavady that will create 20 new jobs from January 2014.
The new unit which will be based at Limavady Jobs and Benefits Office will be involved in digital scanning of all Social Security Agency mail.
It will enable the Agency to introduce digital scanning for many of its existing services and it will support the move to online services for social security benefits.
Announcing the new unit during a visit to the Limavady office, the Minister said: “I very much welcome the Agency’s drive towards modernising its services thereby improving the service it provides to claimants. This new unit will provide a welcome jobs boost for Limavady and create 20 new posts in the area once it’s operational from January 2014 onwards.
“It helps to ensure optimum use of the Social Security Agency estate and at the same time affords local people travelling to work in Belfast and other parts of Northern Ireland an opportunity to work closer to home.”
