A masked gunman robbed a bookmakers on the Lecky Road on Friday evening.
At 6.15pm a masked man entered the business premises brandishing a firearm and threatened staff. He then made off with a sum of cash.
Sinn Féin Cityside Councillor Patricia Logue has condemned those involved in the incident.
Councillor Logue said: "I condemn outright the robbery of a bookmaker’s premises at Lecky Road on Friday afternoon. This business has been the target of several robberies over the past few years. And has left both the staff and customers very badly shaken from what must have been terrible and frightening ordeals.
"Whoever carried out this attack and others are enemies of our community and must not be allowed to terrorise people attempting to provide a service for the local area.
"It is also very worrying that there have been a number of small of business premises targeted by criminals gangs in the greater Bogside/Brandywell over the past few weeks.I would urge anyone who has information on the gangs responsible to bring it forward straight away."
PSNI at Strand Road request anyone with information on the incident to contact police on 0845 600 8000.
