Derry's veteran socialist Eamonn McCann is stepping down from Council for health reasons.
Mr. McCann said he has been diagnosed with ataxia, a term for a group of disorders that affect co-ordination, balance and speech. Any part of the body can be affected, but people with ataxia often have difficulties with balance and walking.
Eamonn has been a Council member representing the People Before Profit party for two years, having previously served in Stormont as MLA for Foyle in 2016-2017.
He has had a career spanning over 50 years and wrote the famous book 'War and an Irish Town' which chronicles the struggles of the Civil Rights movement and the unrest of the early Troubles.
