New restrictions announced for Derry and Strabane area

The First and Deputy First ministers have announced the following restrictions for Derry and Strabane.

These are to be formally introduced from next week but we are asked to adhere to them immediately.

Derry and Strabane residents should embark only on necessary travelling e.g. for travel to work.

restaurants will return to opening only for takeaway, delivery and outdoor dining.

Hotels can be open for residents only and for weddings and funerals.

Museums and galleries should remain closed.

Sporting events should have no spectators.

There will be no community hall-type functions.

People who can work from home should do so.

Indoor sporting activities for individual training only.

Visitors should not enter the Derry/Strabane Council area without good reason.

Schools can continue as they have been, so can churches. Outdoor gatherings can continue for up to 15 people.

At Altnagelvin, some services have been suspended for at least a week to manage Covid-19 patients.

The Western Trust says elective orthopaedic inpatient services have been suspended and it has implemented its surge plan and re-designate the ward, to manage Covid-19 patients and to have enough inpatient beds to cope with the expected surge.
