Prime Minister Theresa May and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar have released a joint statement to confirm a new process of political talks involving all of Northern Ireland's main parties are due to begin after the local elections, which take place on May 2.

However the re-establishment of the NI Executive, Assembly and North-South Ministerial Council are described only as the 'aim' of these talks, and progress would require a resolution of "the underlying concerns of all parties, and the need for renewed trust, mutual respect, generosity and new thinking to resolve the issues."
