Local politicians have united to condemn the gun attack on a PSNI vehicle at Westland Street in Derry's Bogside, at around 1am on Tuesday morning.
Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has condemned the attack as 'totally reckless' and one which 'put the lives of many people at risk.'
Mr. McCartney added that those behind this attack had nothing to offer society and were not representative of the people of Derry.
SDLP Foyle MLA Colum Eastwood called the incident 'a shocking attack on our police service,” by people with no regard for their community, nor for the future we are trying to build.
He added that these people need to hear the message loud and clear that their actions are not wanted, and they will never achieve the aims they say they want to achieve by violent means.
