One of Derry's most popular restaurants has shut down due to difficult conditions caused by the recession.

O'Brien's American Steakhouse and and Grill Bar on the Strand Road served its last customers last night.

Announcing the news on their Facebook page owners said: "O'Brien's American Steakhouse Strand Road, Derry have closed down.
The staff would like to thank everyone for your custom and support over the years.

"We were so lucky to have such talented chefs and excellent floor staff - we really were like a family and worked so well together and thankfully we leave with great memories especially of the last couple of years, maybe we will return in the future ...watch this space!!"

It is thought that one of the reasons for closure was tough competition in a tough market - many restaurants are offering 50% off meals to attract pennywise customers.
