A proposal has been made to build a retirement village on the former Thornhill College site at Culmore Road.
SDLP Cllr Angela Dobbins has welcomed the proposed plans, saying: “The former Thornhill College site is in a peaceful, tranquil setting and the proposed plans for a retirement village to be developed here is very appropriate. The proposed plans to incorporate a palliative care facility with assisted and independent units for retired residents may be ambitious but will compliment this area."
A retirement village is a model which is used throughout the country with long waiting lists of interested tenants. Councillor Dobbins said that retirement villages such as Elmgrove and Thorndale are a success story in the Ballyarnett ward, and the plans for Thornhill will be a welcome addition.
