Roads Service officials have confirmed that the proposed one way traffic management system on Park Avenue will not be going ahead, due to an enormous public response.
SDLP Councillor Shauna Cusack has expressed her satisfaction that the people of Rosemount have been listened to.
Councillor Cusack said: “This proposal sparked a huge reaction from the residents of the area and because they were given the full facts and assistance to make their voices heard, they were able to prevent this project going ahead. I am delighted that the residents have been listened to and Roads Service has shelved the plans. I witnessed a community galvanise against the scheme and it was inspiring to see how the power of people through engaging with neighbours, friends and communities can be prevail to achieve a common goal.
“Rosemount is one of the City’s most historical areas and this achievement for residents proves that the sense of community and neighbourhood are still very strong and alive in the area.”
