SDLP councillor Shauna Cusack has expressed her disgust after thieves targeted a pensioner's car in the grounds of St Eugene’s Cathedral, Derry.
“It would appear some petty thieves have absolutely no conscience. Luckily the pensioner whose car was ransacked on the grounds of the Cathedral had no valuables inside. He admitted not having locked the car properly as he was in a rush but believed it to be safe as it was parked within the Cathedral grounds.
“This just proves that anyone, anywhere and at any time can be at risk from opportunists. I would urge everyone to be extra vigilant and not fall victim to these criminals.
“While this is a particularly upsetting experience for anyone, it is worth remembering that if you have not secured your car, just like your property, any insurance claims may not be paid.”
