Time to deal with 'problem tenants' - Doyle

Aontú Cllr for Derry Emmet Doyle has said it is now time for the Housing Executive to put in place plans to address ‘problem tenants’ who negatively affect communities as he brings a motion to Derry City and a Strabane District Council this evening.

Cllr Doyle: “Tonight I am calling on new rules that would prohibit those accessing social housing or getting access to full duty applicant status by the Housing Executive to be implemented as soon as possible.

It is no secret that areas of the city are massively frustrated by the disruption caused by those who engage in unacceptable behaviour, especially in new estates, and I am contacted regularly by residents asking how those engaged in this behaviour are able to move from area to area.

Social housing is both a right and a responsibility and it is time this solution was put in place to protect residents and communities, and I will continue to seek a timely resolution to what is an ongoing problem”.
