Ulster Bank has said it will close "in the region" of 20 branches and sub-offices in Ireland north and south during 2013.
There is no indication as yet which branches may be affected, or if Derry will be involved.
Ulster Bank has promised further details on the closures "within the next few weeks."
The Irish Bank Officials' Association said staff learned of the closures during a conference call last week. The Association is now seeking to meet officials from Ulster Bank next week.
The Ulster Bank has 146 branches in the Republic of Ireland and 90 in Northern Ireland.
