Western Trust nurses carried off an armful of awards at last night’s RCN Northern Ireland Nurse of the Year Awards.
NI Nurse of the Year was Emma McKinney, Specialist nurse practitioner with the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust, working in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) and specialised in working with young people within the criminal justice system at Woodlands Juvenile Justice Centre in Bangor.
In this overall Nurse of the Year category, Western Trust staff nurses Donna Pike and Amanda Buchanan were given special commendations.
Winner of the Learning in Practice Award was Western Trust practice educator Tracy McGilligan.
Winners in the category Inspiring Excellence in Mental Health and Learning Disability Award were Claire Kerr, deputy sister, and Jennifer Jordan, staff nurse with the Western Trust.
In the Leadership Award category, winner was Lesley Mitchell, Macmillan lead nurse and nursing services manager with the Western Trust.
In the Learning Disability Award category, runner-up was Lorraine Feeney, ward sister at the Western Trust.
And staff nurse Donna Pike took her second award of the evening as runner-up in the Patient’s Choice category.
